Ed Burrows, F.C.A. - PresidentI have specialized in valuing pensions for marriage breakdown purposes since 1990. I have written two books dealing with the valuation of pensions, and had several articles published in leading legal journals. I have also appeared in court as an expert witness several times. The Supreme Court of Canada considered and quoted my opinions in the famous case of Best v. Best. I was a member of the faculty for the National Family Law Conference in LaMalbaie Quebec, July 2004. My wife Claire and I enjoy our cottage. Time spent there gives me the opportunity to enjoy long walks, as well as spend time on my favourite hobby, genealogy. I enjoy keeping busy, I am also the Chair of the Marketing Committee of the Canadian Canoe Museum. Serving my community in this capacity is important to me. Kim Maika, B.A.Senior Pension ValuatorI have been employed with Pension Valuators of Canada since August 1999 as a pension valuator. Upon commencing the position, I realized it was what I was born to do. My love of mathematics and numerical calculations stems from a very early age, and I have always sought ways to incorporate it into both my professional and personal life. After scoring in the top one percentile in each of my OAC math courses, I went on to complete my Bachelor of Arts. After graduation I taught courses ranging from Grade 1 to both technical and business mathematics at a private school in Peterborough, Ontario. I continue to tutor students of various ages in a range of subjects. I have also accumulated experience completing tax returns, which allows me to revise and update our computerized tax calculation program regularly. My experience in valuing over 1700 valuations, which covered over 700 different pension plans, makes me confident that I can provide assistance to anyone involved in a marriage breakdown situation involving a pension. I pride myself on my natural ability to get along with people and make them feel comfortable in what is often a very trying time. I have provided invaluable assistance to lawyers in negotiating settlements, as well as answered various questions regarding pension valuations and provisions, retirement ages, recent court case decisions, service discounts, and income tax calculations. My excellent rapport with plan administrators allows me to obtain accurate and precise information quickly. In summary, I am dedicated to providing high quality valuations, and I am always happy to be of assistance. Scott Love - Pension ValuatorI started with PVOC in October 2006 and I enjoy working with the team in my hometown. I attended Trent University and studied Economics and Business Administration. I have also lived in Australia for one year while obtaining my Masters in Education. I enjoy traveling, learning and being challenged. Andrew MacDonald, B.ScPension ValuatorI am embarking on a new career with PVOC as a pension valuator! As a recent graduate of the Actuarial Science Program at the University of Toronto, I am excited to apply the skills I have acquired through my studies, and to learn the business of pension valuations for marriage breakdown. Peterborough is my hometown, and I am glad to return and work with the wonderful team at PVOC. Susan Potter - Office Manager & Personal Assistant to Ed Burrows My role with PVOC is to ensure that the office runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, enabling our valuators to devote their time and attention to providing our clients with the best service possible. I have 20 years of experience working in various office environments. My last position prior to joining Pension Valuators was with a Family Law lawyer, providing me with a unique understanding of the requirements of lawyers and their clients. I moved to Peterborough with my husband, Christopher and our three year old son, Cameron in August 2005. We love it here, and working with Ed, Kim, Scott, Karissa and Andrew has been the icing on the cake - it is a wonderful place to work, and I look forward to many years of working together and helping our customers. Karissa Rosborough - Administrative Assistant In January '08, I joined PVOC. I've lived in Peterborough for most of my life and attended Trent University for my BA. Getting to know and working with everyone here has been a great experience. My position provides me with the opportunity to liaise with members, lawyers and pension administrators which is one of the aspects of the job that I love the most! |
